人力車は、19世紀後半に導入され、急速に日本の都市で広まりました。明治時代には一般的な交通手段として利用され、芸者文化や、観光、エンターテインメントとして活用され親しまれてきました。大正時代になると自動車の普及により次第に衰退していくこととなりましたが、明治～大正時代の日本の歴史と文化に深く根付いています。

Rickshaws were introduced in the late 19th century and rapidly spread across cities in Japan. During the Meiji era, they became a common means of transportation and were embraced for their association with geisha culture, as well as their use in tourism and entertainment. However, with the advent of automobile popularity in the Taisho era, they gradually declined. Despite this, their legacy remains deeply rooted in the history and culture of Japan from the Meiji to the Taisho era.
