福岡県柳川市Yanagawa City
柳川市は市内を掘割が縦横に流れることから水の都と呼ばれ、筑後地方南西部における商業の中心地であるとともに、鰻のせいろ蒸しなど鰻料理、掘割を使った川下り、旧藩主立花氏の別邸である立花氏庭園(御花)が知られる。このほかにも干拓地を中心としたい草の栽培、有明海における海苔の養殖なども盛んである。
Yanagawa City is called the “water city” because of the ditches that run vertically and horizontally through the city. It is the commercial center of the southwestern Chikugo region and is also known for its eel cuisine such as steamed eel in a pot, river rafting using ditches, and the Tachibana family garden (Gohana), the villa of the former feudal lord, the Tachibana clan. In addition, the cultivation of rushes, mainly on reclaimed land, and seaweed cultivation in the Ariake Sea are also flourishing.
柳川城下の港町沖端で御用商人を務め造り酒屋としても栄えた詩人北原白秋の生家。1968年に県史跡指定。復元整備後の翌年11月に白秋の生涯と業績を顕彰する資料館として使用されています。
The birthplace of the poet Kitahara Hakushu, who served as an official merchant and flourished as a sake brewer in the port town of Okihata under Yanagawa Castle, this house was designated as a prefectural historic site in 1968. In November of the following year, after its restoration and maintenance, it was used as a museum to honor the life and achievements of Hakushu.
北原白秋 生家
江戸時代中期に造営され、「御花畠」と呼ばれた柳川藩主立花家の邸宅を前身とします。明治期に拡張を行い、新たな建物や庭園を築造して立花伯爵邸となりました。現在は料亭・ホテル・史料館などの施設があり、国の名勝に指定されています。
It was originally the residence of the Tachibana family, the lords of the Yanagawa domain, which was built in the mid-Edo period and called "Gobanabatake". It was expanded during the Meiji period (1868-1912), and new buildings and gardens were constructed to become the Count Tachibana's residence. Today, it houses a ryotei (Japanese-style restaurant), a hotel, and an archives, and is designated as a Place of Scenic Beauty by the national government.
立花氏庭園
立花家の菩提寺で、1587年立花宗茂公の岳父戸次道雪公の菩提を弔うため立花城下より柳川城下へ移された梅岳寺が前身となります。1669年に梅岳寺から梅岳山福厳寺へ改称されました。
It is a family temple of the Tachibana family and was originally Umegakuji Temple, which was moved from Tachibana Castle to Yanagawa Castle in 1587 to mourn the loss of Toji Michisetsu, the father of Muneshige Tachibana.
福厳寺
関ヶ原合戦後、筑後国33万石を領して柳川に居城した田中吉政公の菩提寺です。墓石上に建てられた本堂自体が吉政公の墓ともいわれています。
This is the family temple of Yoshimasa Tanaka, who after the Battle of Sekigahara was granted 330,000 koku of Chikugo Province and settled in Yanagawa. The main hall itself, built on a gravestone, is said to be the tomb of Yoshimasa.
真勝寺
文政11(1828)年に隠居所として建築された武家屋敷と庭園。後に藩公の茶室としても使われました。現在、建物は県指定有形文化財、庭園は国指定の名勝となっています。
The samurai residence and garden were built in 1828 as a retirement residence. Later, it was also used as a tea ceremony house for the feudal lord. Today, the building is designated as a prefectural tangible cultural property and the garden as a national place of scenic beauty.
旧戸島家 住宅
毎年、4月中旬~下旬のころに見頃を迎える。江戸時代に、地元の酒屋の「万さん」が大阪の野田のフジの種を持ち帰り、植えたと伝えられています。県指定の天然記念物にも指定されている名樹です。
The best time to view them is around mid to late April every year. It is said that during the Edo period, "Man-san," a local liquor store owner, brought back the seeds of a Fuji tree from Noda in Osaka and planted it. It is a famous tree designated as a natural monument by the prefecture.
中山の 大藤
有明海に面した干拓地に広がる大輪のひまわりは迫力満点。天気が良い日は、一面に広がる黄色いじゅうたんと青い空のコントラストが楽しめます。
The large sunflowers spreading across the reclaimed land facing the Ariake Sea are a powerful sight. On a fine day, you can enjoy the contrast between the yellow carpet spreading all over the area and the blue sky.
柳川 ひまわり園
永禄(1558~)の頃天下に誇る水の城として完成し三百余年続きましたが、火災により天守閣は焼失し現在は残っていません。本丸及び二の丸跡には柳川高校、柳城中学校が建てられています。
The castle was completed during the Eiroku period (1558- ) and lasted for more than 300 years, but the castle tower was destroyed by fire. Yanagawa High School and Yanagi Junior High School were built on the ruins of the main castle and the second castle.
